From Seattle, Seapony is surf pop for the sentimental. Their first release – Dreaming – a 7″ on Double Denim records is a record full of breathy vocals and jangly guitars. The sort of sounds that, combined, are perhaps more of the late Summer evenings than they are of sweltering afternoons at the height of season. Simply put, it’s a Summer record that makes you reach for a long-sleeved shirt…
Of Seapony’s sound, Yvnyl writes:
‘This Seattle retro-pop outfit writes songs for late in the prom dance evening. Heartfelt notions of missing and growing and teenage love.’
The folks over at Double Denim add:
“It was on our usual trawl through the murk of the internet that we found the dewy-eyed gold of ‘Dreaming’. It didn’t so much stand out from the crowd as leap right out of the computer screen. We loved the way the song straddled the gap between the surf of stuff like Best Coast and the slackerisms of Pavement, Yuck and countless others. It was a gap that we didn’t know needed filling but Seapony have done a fine job.”
