Pitchfork: TV is running The Life of the World to Come, a film directed by Rian Johnson (Brick), as part of its One Week Only series. The film features The Mountain Goats‘ John Darnielle playing the album of the same name in its entirety at Pomona College. And as you would expect, it’s pure awesome. Just follow me, and you can see for yourself!
(Note: The embed hops around the album. If you want to go track by track, go here.)
Update: Sorry, folks, but the time has come to say goodbye. Thanks for the fun, Pitchfork!
That was fantastic. Chose to watch it in sequence over on the site. I’d forgotten how great that album was (been neglecting my Mountain Goats obsession lately).
I’m glad you liked it! I love how intimate the whole thing is… It feels much more like a friendly chat than a “performance,” and I’m constantly amazed by how – and I recognize that this is an odd term for Mr. Darnielle – normal the whole thing seems.
In fact, I think I’ll just go watch it again… 🙂
